Over the past few years, Jennifer has:

Pushed a comprehensive reform of Illinois’ 20-year-old school funding formula, meaning Will County schools will receive millions more each year to fund our children’s education.

 

Unlocked funds to give every rural school in Illinois access to highspeed broadband internet.

 

Pioneered a law that would allow retired teachers in Illinois to serve as substitutes for up to 120 days—combating the substitute teacher shortage.

 

Established a universal 911 program to keep Will County residents safe.

 

Removed the statute of limitations would be removed if the victim is under 18 years of age for criminal sexual assault and genital mutilation to give survivors a chance to seek justice in their own time.

 

Championed a law to ensure mental health services ​for law enforcement and firefighters. Illinois firefighters and law enforcement officers will now have a new law in place to help end the mental health stigma in their field.

Included in the budget an additional $350 million for primary and secondary schools as mandated in the evidence-based funding formula.

 

Increased merit-based funds for in-state Illinois university students with the AIM HIGH Grant Program, which assists middle- and low-income students attending universities in Illinois. 

 

Sent a bill to the governor which would raise the minimum wage for teachers to $32,000 a year for the ’18-’19 school year.

 

Championed a law to make it illegal for toxic caffeine powder to be sold to anyone under age 18 in Illinois.

 

Fought to secure funding for projects across Will County to improve our roads, highways and bridges.

 

Fought to ensure women across the region will have stronger remedies to fight sexual harassment and discrimination​in work places.

Ensured the reinstatement of state payments to local governments which had gone without state dollars during Governor Rauner’s budget impasse.

 

Rejected a proposal by Governor Rauner which shifted pension costs onto local government.

 

Created an Illinois veterans' business loan program that allows the Illinois Finance Authority to offer an increased number of low-interest loans to veterans to create new businesses.

 

Fought for term limits for legislative leaders in the General Assembly.

 

Worked to protect our seniors from scammers, making hearing aids more affordable and cutting red tape for seniors applying for property tax exemptions.

 

Pushed to ensure WIll County resident’s personal health care information remain private.
